Emerging applications and systems for improving quality-of-life in assistive environments
Abstract : Assistive environment is a new paradigm in information and communication technology (ICT) aimed at empowering people’s capabilities with the help of emerging applications and systems that are sensitive, adaptive and responsive to human needs, habits, gestures and emotions. This vision of users’ daily environment will enable innovative human-machine interactions characterized by pervasive, unobtrusive and anticipatory communications leading to improved quality-of-life (QoL). In other words, the assistive environment paradigm represents the future vision of intelligent computing where the input/output multimedia come from and are presented to sensors/applications that are intuitively integrated into everyday objects or systems. These, work together in harmony in order to support and enhance the users’ QoL and performance in a wide range of settings including workplace, home, public spaces and other. In this context, the current session aims to present computational and engineering approaches that employ recent advances in ICT and leverage multimodal data and state-of-the-art artificial intelligence, deep learning and other related multimedia analysis techniques towards context aware, personalized, adaptive and ubiquitous solutions for the users. The topic of this session brings together different types of technologies and knowledge from several fields in order to address important social and healthcare issues for, among others, sensitive populations.
